How it works

Covering your wedding involves more than just shooting on the day.

With many years of shooting experience, I can achieve great shots quickly, quietly with the minimum of fuss. I stay in the background as much as possible.

I like to meet with you before the day, but if distance is a problem we can make initial arrangements with you on the telephone.

After an initial consultation, I can start the planning process.

Pre wedding

Consultation –  help and advice with planning, drawing up a shooting schedule ‘The Plan’ to ensure that everything runs smoothly, with the minimum of fuss.

The Plan

“chance favours the prepared mind”

All arrangements are taken into consideration, listed are times, "where, when and who", including the key people and reminders for “must have” shots, and highlights any potential sensitive issues eg. secret surprises or family politics.

Liaising - on occasion it can help to work with the venue and other service providers; I often submit my plans just to keep the key important people in the loop.

Full reconnaissance - all venues are fully scouted; this is important to establish the potential for points of view and to highlight any problems. I also have a contingency plan for bad weather shooting.

Letter of agreement - Confirmation is sent in writing with a shooting schedule.

Deposit - On booking, £500 is required to secure the day. The remaining balance becomes due thirty days prior to your wedding.

The Big Day

Shooting starts from bride and groom preparations all the way through to the first dance.

Shooting on the Day - every wedding day is different, there are no set rules. Below are some general guidelines of shots that we might cover for a traditional church wedding.

The Boys - the groom, the best man and the ushers. Cool and relaxed shooting of the boys looking their best. Often we meet much earlier in the day and spend approximately 15-30 minutes, either at the wedding venue, church or pub.

The Girls - getting ready, the bride, the bridesmaids, the bride’s mother, the details, dress, shoes & flowers. This part of the day is where I achieve my hallmark bridal portraits as well as all the fun and frills shots that record the preparations.

The Ceremony - arriving and the bride’s entrance, the ceremony, exchanging the rings, the kiss, the register, the aisle, the happy couple, the confetti…

My policy for covering the actual wedding ceremony is to stay in the background and shoot from a distance. I always try to achieve as many shots as possible but do not want to remove the focus from you in any way. Any set shots are avoided but many shots are taken capturing the joy and excitement.

The Reception – family, hens and stags, the entire wedding party group,

the setting, the food, the cake, the decorations, speeches, cake cutting…

I recommend keeping formal groups to the minimum; I always try and do meaningful groupings of your key people keeping the emphasis on relaxed, fun and informal shooting.

The Couple – I always recommend that couples take time out for a short while from the wedding party. You may appreciate some quiet time to take it all in with one another. Without spending hours, this is the best time to get some wonderful shots - simply having a quite walk, an embrace, whatever you feel comfortable with. A minimum of fifteen minutes is written into the plan.

The Evening – The first dance, throwing the bouquet, fireworks…
